Christmas Countdown!

Hey guys.

It's Christmas in 10 DAYS! You better start your Christmas shopping!

Knucklebones

Hey guys.

You must of heard of knuklebones, right? If you don't know then you're crazy!
Knucklebones were traditionally played with sheep knucklebones, but now you can buy metal or plastic knucklebones. I think metal knucklebones are best, because their weight makes them fall and not bounce as much as plastic ones would.

Holidays

What have you been up to in your holidays?

I went on a 5 day trip up north which was radical! Then I saw the movie G-Force and my cat (sob, sob) got stiches and a cone!

My holiday can not be beaten but, if you think you have a more interesting story, I want to know it.

In 10 years...

In ten years I would like to have started a university degree at Massey University so I can become an equine vet.

Before I go to university I will hopefully go to America. I will stay in America for about six months. Then I will come back to NZ and do my degree. I will then buy a farm hopefully with horses.

My Birthday

Guess what?

Well, you can probably tell by the title but it is my birthday on the 23rd June NZ time. I'm really excited as it will be in 5 days. Although the bad thing is I won't get to spend it with my Dad! Oh well, that can't really be helped and so I'll just have to put up with it.

The Earthrace boat

The Eathrace is a enviromentally friendly boat that went around the word in 60 days, 23 hours and 49 minutes. The Earthrace is eco-friendly and here are the eco-features:

  • Earthrace uses only sustainable biodiesel

  • Some of the Earthrace is made from hemp

  • the Earthrace has a non-toxic anti-foul
  • Mattresses are made from vegetable and canola oils
  • Water is pumped to remove any chemicals
  • Ice-cream containers were used in the construction of the Earthrace
  • The crew fed on only organic and local food sources
  • The waste from the crew was all recycled
  • The crew's clothing were made from hemp and bamboo

I went and saw the Earthrace with my mum and brother and we got to go inside and it was absolutely amazing.

Brazil

This post is for Mr Woody who posts at http://woodmonstas.blogspot.com/.
History
Brazil is the only Latin American country where the language and culture originate from Portugal. The early explorers brought back a wood that produced red dye (pau-brasil) and from that trees name, the country Brazil was named.
Geography
Brazil covers nearly half of South America and is the continent's largest nation. It extends 4,772 km north-south and 4,331 east-west. Brazil also surrounds every nation on the continent except Chile and Ecuador.

Soccer

Hi, today in middle block, we played soccer and I scored 3 goals. Each time I scored a goal, nearly everyone on my team would give me hi-5s and congratulate me and I thought it was very encouraging to get out there and give it my best. Thank you to everyone on my team for being kind and caring.

Speed Writing

In case you don't know, speed writing is when you have a certain topic and a certain time to write as much as you can on that topic or anything that creeps into your mind at the time and if you don't know what to write, then write you don't know what to write and you aren't allowed to stop. In class at school on 13 May 2009, I did speed writing. The topics we did were: Green, Lego, A Vampire Cat from Vietnam. Here is what I wrote for the topics:

Green

Green is the colour of nature and nature is good.

Lego

Lego is awesome. I make awesome things out of Lego with my dad.

A Vampire Cat from Vietnam

I don't know what to write. A vampire cat strolled down an alley as he looked for a human to bite. Um, I don't know what...we have 50 seconds left I think. Think, how do we think? We have 5 seconds left.

So, as you should be able to figure out speed writing isn't just writing fast and it can be used as a writing warm up.

Have you heard about the 40 hour famine?
Are you going to participate in it?

The 40 hour famine is creeping closer and closer. It is being held on the 22-24 May 09. If you don't know about the 40 hour famine, then here are some facts for you:

1.) The famine is New Zealands most popular fundraising event with a huge population of New Zealand as participants.

2.) The famine started in 1975 because there was a serious famine in Ethiopia.

3.) You can enter the famine by clicking here. It's that simple!

For more information about the famine click here*It really is a kind thing to do.

Cybersafety

Cybersafety is a way to be safe on the internet. Cybersafety is probably the best thing for young kids who to learn for safety on the internet. I will now mention the top ten Cybersafety rules:

1. Never mention your name
2. Saying someone is bad at something is cyberbulling
3. Writing in capitals means shouting (can be offensive)
4. Lol means laugh out loud (could be offensive)
5. Never mention your address/phone number
6. Never meet anyone off the internet
7. Never accept anyone's personal information
8. Calling someone a name is against cyber safety
9. Don't swear as it can be called an offence
10. Never ask a stanger out on the internet because for all you know it could be a ten year old not a fifteen or so year old.

Now you know the rules you should obey them for the safety of yourself and others as well. Do the right thing!

How does music affect learning?

Every teacher thinks that playing music in class hours will affect children's learning because they will sing instead of work but, is that true or do teachers make a big mistake?

In my opinion, teachers are the ones that made the mistake because I find (but this is just me and everyone's different and unique) that music helps me work because it means I don't get bored senseless.

In summary, children need music to work even if it is extremely quiet. But music being quiet would make the children quiet so that they can hear in although it could start a small argument but that is unlikely.

Colin McCahon

In class we had to research a famous artist and I couldn't think of one so I decided to research Colin McCahon because my teacher suggested him.

Colin McCahon was a famous NZ artist born 1st August 1919 Timaru, passed away 27th May 1987 Auckland. He worked during his life as an artist but he also worked in art galleries and as a university lecturer. Some of his best work is the size of a wall! Colin McCahon started to experiment with cubism in his artwork after working with Mary Cockburn-Mercer in Melbourne. I like his work because it's all unique, style and everything.

At school Swimming Sports I swam in the widths of backstroke and breaststroke. We also got to have half an hour freetime in the pool. Swimming Sports was held at the University pools.
